Ford models offer 'tough and durable' suspension

All new vehicles undergo rigorous testing, says Ford.Ford models offer suspension systems that are "tough and durable", the company has reported.

Chancellor George Osborne last week announced plans to allocate a further £100 million to improving road surfaces in Britain, doubling the Department for Transport's pothole budget.

However, the manufacturer reminded customers that all of its new cars, including the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus, are rigorously tested on demanding road surfaces to ensure high-quality, smooth suspension.

Simon Mooney, a test engineer at Dunton Technical Centre, said striking a pothole can be "like hitting a kerbstone".

"We test all the wheel and tyre sizes that are fitted to the production cars so we know they can cope," Mr Mooney commented.

Before vehicles reach the real-life testing stage, they are put through "virtual testing facilities" by Ford engineers at its base in Dunton, Essex.
