Motorists 'not checking their cars'

Drivers must carry out regular checks. An "alarming" number of motorists in the UK are not conducting vital safety checks on their vehicles, it has been revealed.

According to mytyres, almost a quarter (24 per cent) of motorists have never checked their oil and 18 per cent have never tested their spare tyre.
Some 12 per cent said they did not regularly measure the depth of their tyre treads, which could cost them £2,500 and three penalty points if they found in breach of the law.

Checks like these are essential to the safety of all vehicles, a spokesperson for the firm emphasised.

"It is clear that we take great pride in our vehicles, but we should not substitute safety in the process. Making these essential checks takes very little time and they can ultimately save lives," he stated.
