Vauxhall set to enter SUV market

Mokka to be unveiled later this year Vauxhall has announced its plans to enter the competitive sub-compact SUV sector with the Mokka.

The car will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show later this year and will mark the Luton-based manufacturer's first foray into the fast-growing market.

Vauxhall has confirmed that the model will be available in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive, with drivers also able to choose between a six-speed manual and automatic transmission set-up.

There will be three engine options – two petrol and one diesel – in what the firm describes as a car with a "fresh and purposeful design".

Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall's chairman and managing director, said: "The Mokka takes its design cues from larger SUVs and integrates them into a compact, yet modern form.

"We are growing a compelling and diverse range of products that appeal both to retail and fleet customers, and the Mokka will complement this perfectly."

Meanwhile, Vauxhall has seen its Ampera shortlisted for the coveted 2012 European Car of the Year award.
