Will new Astra VXR steal Focus ST's limelight?

VXR will rival Focus ST, says expert The new Vauxhall Astra VXR is poised to compete with the forthcoming Ford Focus ST in the highly-contested hot hatch market.

That is according to Auto Express, which recently posted images of the new motor after spying it in testing.

"Based on the three-door GTC model – which gets dramatic C pillars and muscular arches – the VXR builds on the sporty look with a new body kit, large alloy wheels and a rear spoiler," the magazine explained.

"Power is expected to come from a turbocharged four-cylinder 2.0-litre petrol engine with over 300bhp. All the power will be delivered to the front wheels and a limited slip-diff is expected to be fitted as standard."

Prices are expected to start at around £25,000 when the Astra VXR hits showrooms in early 2012.

The news comes shortly after Vauxhall bosses announced that its current line-up will allow it to position itself as a genuine rival to both Ford and Volkswagen in the UK.
