The award-winning MG5 EV is so much more than your typical family estate. It has a spacious interior, comes with plenty of kit as standard, and with the introduction of the new longer-range model, a healthy electric range of 250 miles.
We’ve taken a closer look to find out more.
Drive and Performance
The MG5 EV Long Range features a powerful 115kW motor, which can achieve 0-60mph in just 7.3 seconds.
Its 61.1kWh lithium-ion battery gives a healthy range of 250 miles, which exceeds the driving requirements for most individuals. Compatibility with rapid charging means it can be charged up to 80% in 40 minutes using a 100kW rapid charger or 61 minutes via a 50kW unit. A 100% home charge using a Type 2 charge port should take approximately 9.5 hours on a domestic supply – making it ideal for overnight charging.
The MG5 EV provides the practicality and flexibility you’d expect from a large station wagon, alongside excellent driving dynamics – all with zero tailpipe emissions.
The MG5 EV is one of just three fully-electric estate vehicles on the market; the other two being the much pricier Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo and Sport Turismo. As a result, the MG5 EV doesn’t look like any other electric car currently available.
It sits much lower to the ground than most other EVs, and has a sleek silhouette. Available in a choice of five different colours: Piccadilly Blue, Westminster Silver, Dynamic Red, Black Pearl or Arctic White, customers have the opportunity to select their favourite finish.
Inside, the MG5 EV is spacious, comfortable and connected. The 8-inch colour touchscreen has smartphone mirroring with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility.
The MG5 EV is a capable estate. It has a large, versatile boot that is extremely accessible with a wide tailgate opening. With the rear seats and load cover in place, there is an impressive 464 litres of cargo space. This extends to 578 litres with the load cover retracted, and with the rear seats folded, there becomes an astonishing 1,456 litres to play with.
All the room for luggage doesn’t impact occupant comfort, with ample leg, head and shoulder room for all passengers in both the front and back.
The MG5 EV Long Range model comes with the advanced MG Pilot Driver Assistance System, which includes a plethora of smart assistive technologies such as Active Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist, Intelligent High Beam Assist and Intelligent Speed Limit Assist.
Additional safety features include front, side and curtain airbags, ISOFIX points in the rear, a tyre pressure monitoring system and seatbelt warnings for front and rear passengers.
MG is now the fourth most popular EV brand in the UK and offers an ever-expanding range of electrified models for customers including the MG ZS EV and MG HS Plug-in Hybrid. MG is hoping to bring electric motoring to the masses, through affordable, practical and innovative models - and the MG5 EV is a classic example of this in action.
Priced from £27,945 the MG5 EV Long Range has a lot to offer - and you don’t just have to take our word for it! The efficient estate took two awards at the prestigious What Car Awards 2022, coming top in the 'Best Large Electric Car for Value' and 'Best Electric Estate' categories.
