Burnley Make It Two Wins From Two

Burnley made it two wins from two in the EFL Championship with a dominant win in Scott Parker’s first game in charge at Turf Moor.

The Bristol Street Motors-backed side had started the campaign with an impressive 4-1 victory on the road at Luton Town, and welcomed Cardiff City to Lancashire for the first home game of the season.

Parker was forced into changes for the game, with Vaclav Hladky making his debut in goal in place of the unwell James Trafford, and club veteran Jay Rodriguez drafted in to replace Wilson Odobert after he completed a surprise, big money transfer to Tottenham Hotspur.

Cardiff hadn’t won at Turf Moor since the 1980s and that run never looked in danger of ending from the moment visiting ‘keeper Ethan Horvath made a complete mess of a pass from Dimitrios Goutas.

Despite being under no pressure, Horvath allowed the ball to slip under his foot and into the net to give the home side the lead.

Cardiff did then strike the post through Yakou Meite but Burnley were soon two clear as Rodriguez drove into the box and played a ball across that was tapped on by Josh Brownhill and converted by Luca Koleosho.

Two clear at the break, Burnley wasted little time in extending their advantage in the second half as Vitinho player a lovely ball through to Brownhill to break clear and beat Horvath with ease before two late goals wrapped up a 5-0 success.

First up, Zeki Amdouni picked up a loose ball just inside the Cardiff half before striding forward and rifling a shot that hit the bar, came down and crossed the line before bouncing back out again – being awarded thanks to the Goal Decision System.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson then smashed home a shot of his own from outside the box in stoppage time to round things off and maintain a 100 per cent start to the campaign.
