What do I need to sell my car?

Selling your car at Bristol Street Motors? Great! To help you prepare for your appointment, we’ve put together a handy checklist of everything you’ll need to bring with you.

All so you can arrive fully prepared and ready to sell your car!

Appointment checklist

Make sure to bring the following items to your appointment:

  • V5C logbook (vehicle registration logbook)
  • Your driving licence
  • A document showing proof of address from the last six months
  • Your bank details (to process your payment)
  • Both sets of car keys (if applicable)
  • Servicing and MOT records (including receipts for any previous work completed)
  • User manual
  • Finance settlement letter (if this applies)
  • V317 retention form (if keeping a private reg plate)

The V5C logbook

Without the V5C logbook, selling your car could be more difficult. This is the document that contains the registered owner of the vehicle, which you will pass to the new owner when selling it. If you’ve misplaced it, you’ll need to pay for a new one.

Service and MOT history

A full service and MOT history is one of the things that increases your vehicle’s valuation. Be sure to bring all records of any maintenance carried out on your vehicle so the new owner can continue to follow the schedule.

Finance settlement letter

If your vehicle has outstanding finance, you’ll need to bring a valid settlement letter with you on the day. This will provide information on the final settlement figure and your finance company.

V317 form

Keeping your vehicle’s registration plate? You’ll need to fill out a V317 form to do so and bring it along to your appointment. This will allow you to transfer it to a new vehicle immediately or keep it for up to 10 years.

What happens on the day?

At your appointment, our friendly team will help you get all the paperwork sorted. We’ll also take a look over your vehicle to make sure its condition has been listed correctly. Then, we’ll process your payment!

The appointment should take no longer than an hour, and you should receive your payment via bank transfer in 3-5 working days. If you have any questions, feel free to give us a call – otherwise, we’ll see you soon for your appointment!
