Dacia Sandero to be Britain's cheapest car

The new Dacia Sandero will be made available in the UK from January with a price tag of just £5,995.

Such a figure is near enough the equivalent that a driver needs to fork out just to sample the luxury options of some of the world's most expensive vehicles.

For example, motorists will need to pay £5,250 if they want to put racing stripes onto a Ferrari 599 or splash out £5,464 to experience carbon-ceramic brakes on a Porsche 911.

Of course, the £5,995 Dacia Sandero is only the entry level Access model. However, for such a reasonable price tag drivers will be presented with a car complete with 15-inch steel wheels, daytime running lights, power assisted steering and a 60/40 split folding rear seat.

Owners will also be presented with fine cloth 'element' upholstery when they step inside the vehicle, as well as a spacious 320-litre boot. Safety has not been compromised with the low asking price either, as anti-lock ABS brakes with Emergency Brake Assist, Electronic Stability Control and driver, passenger and front side airbags are all fitted as standard.

Commenting on the Sandero's value, a spokesman at Dacia said: "Dacia manages to make and sell such a temptingly-priced car and still make a profit by making an enemy of the unnecessary.

"Over the last few years, Dacia's engineering team have worked out how even the simplest idea can lead to a few pennies being saved."

For those with a bit more money to spend, there is a mid range Dacia Sandero Ambiance model available, which adds a radio CD player, Bluetooth connectivity, electronic front windows and 15-inch 'Colorado' wheel trims to the offerings for an additional £600.

At the top of the range is the Sandero Laureate. This particular vehicle costs £7,955 and includes all the previously mentioned items on top of heated and electrically adjustable door mirrors, cruise control, electric rear windows, height-adjustable driver's seat and leather steering wheel, to name but a few extras.

The Dacia Sandero hits showrooms across the UK in January 2013.
