Rich motorsport heritage

For over 60 years, the BTCC have been one of the world's most famous motorsport championships. It's not difficult to see why...

Since its inception, the BTCC has seen modified versions of everyday cars go head-to-head, attracting millions of dedicated viewers worldwide with white-knuckle racing action.

About EXCELR8 Motorsport

EXCELR8 Motorsport was founded by the inspirational Justina Williams in 2010, competing in the MINI Challenge and now the BTCC. With countless race wins and podium finishes under their belt, the team has a bright future ahead which we're proud to support.

Spearheading the team at this year's championships are the talented Tom Chilton, and Tom Ingram: serial race winners across different motorsports, they are now making the BTCC their own.

Drivers and races

The championship sees drivers race in various locations, starting at Donington Park in late April and ending at Brands Hatch GP in early October. With three races a day, the BTCC promises audiences both value for money and maximum entertainment in an action-packed atmosphere, where the excitement is truly never-ending.

Tom Chilton

Tom Chilton joined the BTCC in 2002 aged 17. At the time, he was the youngest driver to ever take to the grid. Quick off the mark with a podium finish in his very first race, he finished 15th overall and fifth in the Independents’ Championship.

His first victory in the championship came in 2004 at Silverstone, making him the series’ youngest ever winner. In 2005, Tom competed in the BTCC as well as the American Le Mans series (ALMS) and despite missing six BTCC races, still managed to finish fifth.

Tom had a five-year spell in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) that included an Independents’ Trophy win in 2017- the same season he returned to the BTCC - immediately grabbing silverware at Brands Hatch on his first race back.

Tom Ingram

Tom Ingram made his BTCC debut in 2014 and finished the year as top rookie. Success continued into the following season, as he clinched an emotional first podium for himself and his team at the time, Speedworks Motorsport.

In 2019, Tom triumphed on four separate occasions- including a sensational double-top at Silverstone in a new Toyota Corolla. The following year, he once again drove the Corolla to several victories, finishing fourth overall.

During the 2021 season, Tom took on a new challenge moving to EXCELR8, taking to the tracks in the Hyundai i30 Fastback N.

Meet the team

The team in full comprises of drivers Tom Ingram, Jack Butel, Tom Chilton, and Daniel Lloyd, who line up in four of the most striking cars on the grid with an eye-catching white, blue and red design.

The EXCELR8 Motorsport team brought Hyundai to the BTCC for the first time in 2020; with the design and build of new vehicles that were based on the Hyundai i30 Fastback N Performance. The introduction of the Hyundai model has seen the EXCELR8 team become regular contenders for top ten finishes.

The new 271bhp, front-wheel drive i30 Fastback N comes with increased torsional stiffness compared to previous versions, thanks to its coupe-like bodyshell. The model offers a favourable combination of wheelbase, track width and drag coefficient that makes it ideal for BTCC racing.

The 2022 BTCC season marked the start of the 'hybrid era'. As a result, the EXCELR8 Motorsport team has worked hard to develop a bespoke Hyundai-based engine with innovative hybrid technology.

The BTCC hybrid era

Leading the way for sustainable motorsports, the BTCC has incorporated the use of hybrid cars in the championship, making it the first to do so in the world of motorsports. Since 2019, this has provided drivers with a greener advantage to use in their races, with 15 seconds of hybrid power deployable per lap.

This provides a 15-metre advantage against racers without hybrid power, meaning it's sustainable, and more exciting to watch. Battery charging between races is carried out using a 240v wall socket which charges cars in less than an hour, so they are raring to get back on the track.

Motoring excellence on the track and the road

"We're really looking forward to supporting Tom Ingram and Tom Chilton, who are both leading names in the sport, in addition to the other excellent drivers who are part of the EXCELR8 team, as they all make their presence felt this season."

Robert Forrester
Chief Executive of Bristol Street Motors

"We are delighted to not only extend our relationship with Bristol Street Motors for the 2022 season, but to also expand it to a greater level than has been the case in recent years.

The fact that we have been able to agree this new deal is a reflection of all the hard work that has gone into our BTCC programme, and it is fantastic that such an established brand can see the value that comes from competing in such a high-profile championship."

Justina Williams
Team Owner at EXCELR8 Motorsport

"It's really exciting to have Bristol Street Motors onboard again for the 2022 season, and it's great that an established automotive brand wants to be involved with the excitement of the BTCC and can see the value of all the hard work that we are putting in.

I think the car looks great in the new Bristol Street Motors livery, and with everything we learned last year, I'm looking forward to a strong season at the wheel."

Tom Ingram
Driver at EXCELR8 Motorsport

"Everyone knows that motorsport relies on sponsorship, and it's fantastic to have a major automotive company like Bristol Street Motors involved in our BTCC programme.

I'm excited about the opportunity to join EXCELR8 Motorsport and to work with Bristol Street Motors this season, and in the same way they are champions in their field, hopefully myself and Tom can fight for a championship on track during the year ahead."
