Driving enthusiasts looking to get behind the wheel of a sporty model without going against their green morals could be among those interested in the latest offering from Mazda.
The Japanese firm has used the SEMA show in Las Vegas to unveil a new concept Mazda MX-5 Spyder.
Visitors saw that under the bonnet of the model was the "ever-dependable" MZR 2.0-litre engine.
However, the significant difference is that the new Spyder is powered by BP's isobutanol, which helps Mazda keep to its mantra of "sustainable Zoom-Zoom".
Motorists have been crying out for a mainstream green car with genuine driving appeal and Derek Jenkins, director of Mazda North American operations design, has claimed that the jump between concept and reality is growing ever smaller.
"There is no limit to one's imagination and when applying that to the already dynamic design and punchy performance of Mazda vehicles, the end result is nothing short of a well-crafted vision," he said.
"And because the stock models are extraordinarily versatile, who's to say some elements of these SEMA concepts can't be ready for public consumption?"
