The Vauxhall Ampera has retained the environmentally-friendly vehicle crown at the Auto Express New Car Awards.
A ceremony in London saw the Ampera receive the Green Award for the second consecutive year, with the magazine’s editor-in-chief Steve Fowler suggesting it was a particularly impressive feat because manufacturers are working harder than ever to make cars eco-friendly.
Unlike conventional hybrids, the Ampera’s wheels are always electrically driven. Its battery has a range of 25 to 50 miles, before a generator powered by a 1.4-litre petrol engine kicks in for a range of over 300 miles.
Peter Hope, marketing director for Vauxhall, said: “We are delighted that the Ampera has retained this prestigious award. The Ampera is truly a pioneering vehicle not just for Vauxhall but for the automotive industry as a whole.”
In May, the Ampera was named best hybrid/electric car at the inaugural Telegraph Motoring Awards, beating the likes of the Toyota Prius Plug-In and the Nissan LEAF.
