Ford Tourneo: For both bike and car lovers

Ford has been lauding the space available in its new Tourneo, even calling on those who perhaps prefer two-wheels over four to consider the potential of the versatile vehicle.

With best-in-class flexible seating, Ford has suggested the Tourneo provides an excellent opportunity to take bicycles up and down the country for outdoor adventures. Adjustable seating, stowage and dual sliding rear doors provide cyclists with an opportunity to easily load and unload their bikes.

Barb Samardzich, vice president of Product Development at Ford of Europe, said: "Whether biking competitively or taking the family leisure biking at weekends, the Tourneo Connect range is great for today’s busy lifestyles.

“These are roomy and economical cars which are kind to the budget, and offer all the comfort, features and smart technologies that sports people expect.”

In terms of economy, Mr Samardzich is not wrong. The Tourneo Connect comes with a 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, which can achieve 50.4mph while only emitting 129g/km of CO2 - making it 16 per cent more carbon efficient that its closest UK petrol rival.

On the higher-end of the scale, the 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCI engine version of the model only emits 120g/km of CO2 and delivers 61.4mpg.

In order to further maximise space in the vehicle, the Tourneo features aircraft-style overhead lockers above the rear seats and luggage area. A further illusion of roominess comes from a glass panoramic roof.

While the five-seat version of the model provides 2,410 litres of space behind the front seats, that may not be enough for some. Instead, customers should turn to the seven-seat Grand Tourneo Connect, which offers an additional 210 litres of storage in the back.

The all-new Ford people movers will be launched onto the European market by mid-2014 - just in time for summer cycling trips!
