SEAT has revealed the new Ibiza Cupra, which it hopes can bring plenty of competition to its platform-sharing cousins, the Audi S1 and the Volkswagen Polo.

Drivers have plenty to admire about the new vehicle from the Spanish car manufacturer, whether it is the model's sharp exterior design, its extraordinary level of performance or its lively cabin style.

Of course, performance was going to be the aspect that many car enthusiasts would be analysing with detail when the words SEAT and Cupra were put together and marketed as a street-worthy vehicle.

The name was established back in 1996, with the original range-topping Ibiza assembled by the Spanish car giant to celebrate its victory in the 2.0-litre category of that year's World Rally Championship.

A nifty 1.4 TSI 180PS engine, which comes complete with a turbocharger and a supercharger, lifts any unease though. This motor enables the new SEAT Ibiza Cupra to hit 62mph from rest in just 6.9 seconds, before accelerating to a blistering top speed of 142mph.

Furthermore, a seven-speed DSG twin-clutch transmission should enable top gear to be reached in little to no time, while paddle shifts offer drivers comfort during every ride.

The new Cupra is also an eye-catching vehicle. A broad grille and aggressive air intakes give the front of the car a striking look, with the rear design standing out thanks to a matte black diffuser and trapezoidal exhaust.

Head inside this new SEAT Ibiza and motorists can drive in style and comfort, with the addition of sports seats. A sports steering wheel harps back to the Cupra's rally days, while an entertainment system is sure to make every road trip that little bit more fun to undertake.

Technology offerings for the new SEAT Ibiza Cupra also come by the shedload. Climate control, automatic wipers, Bluetooth connectivity, xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, and stylish 17-inch alloy wheels will all be fitted as standard.

The new SEAT Ibiza Cupra launches across the UK in early 2013.
