Ford tops poll of classic 'Dad cars'

With Fathers' Day just around the corner, car check company HPI has carried out a survey to find the most fondly-remembered cars that our dads used to drive.

US carmaker Ford took the top two places, with the Cortina and the Sierra getting almost a third of the votes between them.

The Cortina was a highly popular dad car in the 1960s and 70s, but was replaced in the 80s by the more aerodynamic styling of the Sierra.

Vauxhall took joint third place with eight per cent of the votes going to its long-running Cavalier model, while the Ford Fiesta and the Citroen 2CV also made it into the top 15.

Nicola Johnson, consumer services manager for HPI, said: "We may shudder when we think of the brown and orange monstrosities our dads drove us to school in, in the 60s, 70s and 80s, but they hold some fond memories."
