Hyundai smashes best ever annual sales total

Hyundai has set a new benchmark for sales of its own models, with 57,391 being snapped up so far this year.

It beats the all-time record which the firm recorded in 2009 of 56,927, with Hyundai predicting that it will sell around 62,000 by the end of this year, a year-on-year rise of almost nine per cent.

Furthermore, this growth has been driven by non-scrappage scheme customers, with 80 per cent of sales going to those who were not looking to cash in on their old car.

The Hyundai i10 city car continues to be the manufacturer's top seller, with 22,208 being sold so far this year, followed by the i30 and i20.

Tony Whitehorn, managing director of the firm, said: "Whilst 2009 was a great year for Hyundai in the UK, 2010 is even better. Scrappage gave the franchise a boost and catapulted it into people's awareness. 2010 proves that we are here to stay."

Recently, the Hyundai ix20 went on sale around the UK, with three drivetrain options and three trim options being available.ADNFCR-3205-ID-800251902-ADNFCR
