Mazda MX-5 25th Anniversary Edition gets top honours

Auto Express recently took the 25th Anniversary Limited Edition Mazda MX-5 for a spin and gave the iconic cabriolet a glowing five star review.

The MX-5 has hit a landmark year with the mark celebrating a quarter of a century since it first went on sale. Mazda revealed the special edition car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June before it went on sale this month.

Just 750 examples of this limited edition model will be available in the UK. Mazda has used the current range-topping 2.0-litre Sport Tech Nav version as a base but with a host of optional extras as standard.

All of the special edition cars are painted in Soul Red metallic paint and sits on 17-inch alloy wheels. The interior is upholstered in stone coloured leather with red stitching.

Mechanically the 158 bhp MX-5 is unchanged but Jonathan Burn from Auto Express commented that this was no bad thing: "Cynics have often criticised the MX-5 for being underpowered, but they're nit picking at an otherwise well honed product."

Burn gave the verdict on the iconic car, adding: "The Mazda MX-5 has been around for so long, it's easy to forget just how good it is. Brisk, agile and excellent value, it's everything you could ever ask of a two-seat sports car, without the stiff and unforgiving ride.

"The accessible performance lets you unlock the car's full potential, and the 25th Anniversary Limited Edition is a fitting way for the MkIII to bow out. With the added exclusivity and style, all 750 will soon sell out."
