New Mazda MX-5 Set For UK Launch

An upgraded version of the popular Mazda MX-5 roadster is due to be unleashed on UK motorists later this year.

The Japanese manufacturer has confirmed that a raft of improvements have been made to the sporty model in time for its release.

Among the upgrades is a new throttle and brake system that had been designed to enhance the overall driving experience.

Those looking to get behind the wheel of the new model will also notice a new front bumper design, which the carmaker claims gives the model a "fresh face" and a boost in aerodynamics.

Mazda said of the new model: "A new, upgraded version of the world's best-selling open-top sportscar, the Mazda MX-5, is now rolling off the assembly line in Hiroshima, Japan and will go on sale in the UK later this year.

"The upgraded MX-5 has enhanced safety features and refined driving attributes, together with exterior and interior improvements to make the Roadster Coupe and the classic Soft-top models even more attractive."

Among the safety features of the model is a new 'active bonnet', which has been designed specifically to improve pedestrian safety in event of a collision.

The 'active bonnet' protection system automatically raises the trailing edge of the bonnet if pedestrian impact is detected, providing immediate space under the bonnet to absorb impact energy and soften the blow.

From a styling perspective, the MX-5 has been given a more aggressive front bumper design, while the new model boasts the availability of a "striking new Dolphin Grey Mica paint finish".

The news comes shortly after Mazda debuted its road legal MX-5 GT Concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 28th.

Mazda displayed the car throughout the duration of the festival and also entered it in the famous hill climb event in the 'First Glance' category.
