Next Green Car shortlist revealed

Drivers keen to keep an eye on the environment when behind the wheel could find picking a new vehicle easier following the publication of a new awards shortlist.

The Next Green Car Awards 2011 will see winners announced next week but in the meantime, those in the market for a car with eco credentials can take a look at the shortlist.

In the city-car category the Hyundai i10 is among three models in with a shout of scooping the top prize.

The supermini section of the ceremony looks like being a straight race between the Renault Clio dCi Eco and its Vauxhall rival, the CDTi EcoFlex.

However, those looking for a larger car to accommodate their growing families could be tempted by the Nissan Leaf or the Ford Focus TDCi, with both cars nominated in the small family category, or the Citroen C5, which could pick up the large family award.

Other standout models include the Renault Scenic dCi Start-Stop in the MVP section and the crossover category's Peugeot 3008 HYbrid4.

"Eligible models on the Awards shortlists are primarily selected for their low Green Car Rating. However, account is also taken of the level of innovation, value, drive experience and design," organisers of the event explained.
