PSA Peugeot Citroen has received an International Engine of the Year award for its 3-cylinder Turbo PureTech engine.

The engine was named the best in the 1.0-litre to 1.4-litre category on Tuesday 17th June, following a successful run that has seen 100,000 roll off the production line at the Fran�aise de Mecanique plant in Douvrin, France.

The 3-cylinder engine offers extremely high levels performance, standout fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by an average 18 per cent in comparison to its predecessors.

PureTech engines are available in the Peugeot 108, 208, 308, 2008, 3008, and 5008. Additionally, the engine is also available in the Citroen C1, C3, C3 Picasso, C4, C4 Cactus and C4 Picasso as well as the DS3, DS4 and the Dongfeng Peugeot 308S.

Christian Chapelle, vice president of powertrain and chassis engineering, said: "With overall average emissions of 110.3 grams per kilometer, PSA leads the European market on the CO2 front.

"This prestigious prize for our 3-cylinder Turbo PureTech engine rewards the Group's engineering expertise in petrol engines. It is wonderful recognition of the technological progress we've made through R&D as part of our ongoing drive to lower fuel consumption."

PSA Peugeot Citroen aims to remain Europe's leader of reduced CO2 emissions.
