Senna F1 car up for auction

Race fans around the world will see a unique car auctioned at the Spring Sale hosted by Silverstone Auctions later this year.

May 16th will see a Toleman TG184-2 Formula One car, which was driven by late Brazilian ace Ayrton Senna in his debut season, put up for sale.

While estimated values have not been published, demand for such items can be gauged by the sale of one of Senna's helmets and race suits, which sold for £74,750 and £35,650 respectively earlier this year.

Commenting in the car, Nick Whale, managing director at Silverstone Auctions, said: "We are thrilled to bring this iconic race car to auction as it's undoubtedly one of the most important lots we’ve ever offered under the hammer.

"Senna mania is reaching fever pitch and rightly so as he's considered by many as the greatest F1 driver we've ever seen. It goes without saying that this will be one of the star attractions at the sale as it's a very rare chance to own a much sought-after piece of motorsport history."

The Toleman, Lotus, McLaren and Williams driver made his F1 debut in 1984 and was crowned champion in 1988, 1990 and 1991 before his tragic death aged 34 years in 1994.
