Petrolheads will be able to wind back the clock to the 1970s this August with the Modsport Monsters event at Mallory Park.

Classic creations such as Vauxhall's famous Baby Bertha, as well as modified versions of the Chevrolet Camaro and the VW Beetle, will be taking part in the revival event.

The race, which is being run by the Classic Sports Car Club (CSCC), will mark the start of what is hoped to be a full-blown series of Modsport meets for 2012.

Richard Wos of the CSCC, said: "This is the first bespoke race series of its kind this century and, with its noise, speed and drama, it's sure to appeal to a younger generation of motorsport enthusiasts, as well as those who have fond memories."

Vauxhall is throwing its weight behind this event, by donating a VXR8 super-saloon, which will act as a course car.

Modsport Monsters will take place at Mallory Park in Leicestershire on August 29th.
