Chevrolet Aveo and Orlando awarded five-star Euro NCAP status

Two Chevrolet models have been awarded the highest possible five-star rating Euro NCAP status.

Both the Chevrolet Aveo and Orlando models were proven to be some of the safest cars on the market and will likely instill confidence in its drivers when they go on sale in the autumn.

The Aveo achieved 86 out of 100 points in crash tests, while the Orlando scored a respected 80 out of 100. These scores increased to 87 and 79 respectively when it came down to the areas of adult and child occupant protection.

Some of the safety features in the Aveo include six standard airbags and a child-seat latching system. The Orlando, meanwhile, has six standard airbags and ISOFIX elements for child seats.

"Both the Orlando and the new Aveo hatchback provide formidable levels of safety," commented Wayne Brannon, president and managing director at Chevrolet Europe.

"Safety matters a lot to us and we are delighted that these two vehicles have earned the top European rating."

In 2009, the Chevrolet Cruze achieved the best-ever passenger protection rating in the benchmark crash tests.
