Chevrolet Aveo named safest supermini

With safety being one of the key priorities for new car owners, the Chevrolet Aveo could be in huge demand in the future.

That is after the supermini was named the safest car in its category tested by Euro NCAP in 2011.

The class leader is in good company with Chevy's Captiva, Cruze, Orlando and Volt all boasting a five-star rating from the tester.

During the rigorous testing process, the new Aveo secured 85 out of a possible 100 points, placing it at the very top of its segment.

The judges said they were particularly impressed by the model's adult and child occupant protection as well as its "extensive array of safety features".

Mark Terry, managing director of Chevrolet UK, said: "We take safety very seriously at Chevrolet and this class-leading result for the New Chevrolet Aveo proves this entirely.

"Our whole model line-up provides impeccable safety credentials with the majority achieving a five star rating; it brings great peace of mind to our customers."
