The first official pictures of the new Ford Kuga have been revealed after the model was launched as a concept at the Detroit motor show in January.

Back then, it was unveiled under the name Vertrek and reports claim that the SUV will keep this name. It is also similar in design to the concept car, with a slim upper grille opening and angular rear.

Based on the Ford Focus, J Mays, Ford's vice-president of design and its chief creative officer, is quoted by Autocar as saying: "The Vertrek is inspired by contemporary compact sport utility customers

"It unites stylish design, world-class craftsmanship and outstanding capability to present a fresh vision we believe will resonate globally."

Ford has also said that the model is around five per cent more aerodynamically efficient than the current Kuga.

The news provider reported that in concept form, the vehicle, which has a camouflage design, is powered by a 1.6-litre Ecoboost engine with stop-star technology.
