Ford reports huge demand for 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine

With British motorists regularly looking to cut costs without sacrificing performance, it's perhaps not so much of a surprise that Ford's new EcoBoost engine has been a hit.

However, it may come as more of a surprise to find out how much of a hit it has been, as 50,000 units have been made and sold in Europe alone since it was launched just over six months ago.

This staggering demand, across a range of six models, has left Ford barely able to keep up, with factories working flat out to meet orders, the company has said.

Cash-conscious buyers can get a 1.6-litre EcoBoost engine in the new Focus, Mondeo, C-Max, Grand C-Max, S-Max or Galaxy.

The best stats belong to the new Ford Focus, which can deliver 47.1 mpg, whilst still maintaining sharp enough acceleration to get from 0 to 62 mph in less than eight seconds.

With free-revving performance and super thrifty fuel efficiency, Ford claims that these engines provide the "best of both worlds".
