Hyundai i40 celebrates birthday with industry award

The popular Hyundai i40 has marked its first birthday in style by landing a coveted industry award.

On the anniversary of its UK launch, the South Korean motor was named Company Car of the Year at a ceremony held by Firmenauto and vehicle inspection and appraisal organisation DEKRA.

It marks a successful 12 months for the manufacturer, with the i40 representing its very first Europe-focused D-segment car.

Allan Rushforth, senior vice-president and chief operating officer of Hyundai Motor Europe, said: "The All New i40 is a flagship vehicle for Hyundai - our first model in the highly competitive D-segment that is designed and engineered in Europe, for Europe.

"It has quickly established itself as a true contender, celebrating its first anniversary by collecting another prestigious award – a great demonstration of our successful product localisation strategy."

The judging panel for the award consisted of 100 motor industry representatives and picked the i40 for its driving performance, comfort and cost.

It is the latest in a long line of accolades for the i40, which was also been given the overall winner's Gold Award at the last EuroCarBody Conference.

The news comes shortly after Hyundai was also recognised as a leading brand in the auto sector.

At the recent Car dealer Power Awards, the manufacturer was crowned Best Car Manufacturer at the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth following a survey of 1,000 UK car dealers.

Now could also be a good time to test drive a new Hyundai as the firm recently announced a range of new car deals for the summer.

Drivers can benefit from improved sales terms on a number of popular models including the Hyundai Velostar, i20 and Sante Fe cars.

Meanwhile, the company has also announced that production of new generation i30 Tourer has started at its Czech factory, with more than 57,000 European orders already placed for the five-door model.
