Industry award for Citroen Ds5

Citroen's Ds5 has been handed a coveted industry award that could see demand for the model increased.

The new model has beaten the Lamborghini Aventador to the Car Design of the Year gong, which was voted for by readers of Car Design News.

Just two of the gongs are awarded each year - one for a production car and one for a concept model - and Citroen was handed its prize at the Geneva Motor Show.

Owen Ready, editor of Car Design News, said that the Ds5's "vibrant" look on both the inside and outside sets it part from its rivals.

"It's easy to see why Citron Ds5's design attracted almost a quarter of the votes in the production car category. Both inside and out it's bold, vibrant and idiosyncratic with a rich mix of materials and exciting design solutions," he commented.

"From its distinctive proportions to its genuinely special cabin, the DS5 marks Citron out as one of the most exciting brands around."
