Nissan LEAF sells 3,000th model
The popularity of Nissan's all-electric LEAF has been highlighted, as the model has now sold its 3,000th unit in the UK.
November saw the milestone hit as dealers across the country registered 141 new models of the British-built car - constructed at the manufacturer's Sunderland plant.
The LEAF is currently the market leader in the electric car market, with the second generation of the model selling 1,300 units since it was released in May this year.
In the latest incarnation, the LEAF has delivered updates on the previous model, including an increased driving range of 199km (124 miles) and the ability to recharge in half the time as the first version. The car's heating system has also been made 70 per cent more efficient through the use of a heat pump.
The LEAF is expected to become even more popular in the coming years, with the number of charging points in the country increasing.
Furthermore, with the car eligible to access the government's £5,000 plug-in grant, Nissan is fully expecting a rise in demand for the eco-model.
The cars are now available in three trim-levels - Visia, Acenta and Tekna - and all come with increased boot space thanks to the relocation of the charging point and enhanced interior.
Jim Wright, managing director of Nissan Motor Great Britain, said the brand is "very proud" of the LEAF's success.
"With more than 100 improvements over the outgoing model, it really does mark the next stage in the electric motoring revolution. Built at our record-breaking Sunderland plant for British drivers using British roads, we're looking forward to it becoming our next home-grown success story,” he added.
