It's a well known facts that the Ford Fiesta in manual form is a fantastic car to drive, but we test drove the marque's automatic version to see if it stands up to the challenge.

Currently the top selling new car in the UK, and that doesn't look likely to change any time soon, the Fiesta's success is partly down to the wide range of engines and vast specifications available on this small hatchback.

Most Fiesta's will come fitted with a manual gearbox, but this 'Powershift', while retaining the 1.0-litre 99bhp Ecoboost petrol engine, is equipped with automatic gearbox.

The 'Powershift' model always feels responsive and it definitely does justice to the Fiesta name. Even when overtaking, the car is always ready with the right gear.

This Fiesta also feels fantastic if you're driving around town or even at a slow crawl through city traffic. If you're in the market for an automatic supermini, this Fiesta is unlikely to disappoint.

The engine feels equally powerful for such a small and fuel efficient capacity. It offers plenty of power and low noise levels. This Fiesta produces just 114g/km CO2 and achieves a very pleasing 57.7mpg (combined).

If you're after a comfortable, nippy petrol supermini, the Fiesta makes a strong claim for your money.
