Suzuki Swift goes four-wheel drive
The nippy little Suzuki Swift is now more attractive to those seeking greater grip. A new four-wheel drive Swift model goes on sale in the UK this month after strong interest from customers in Japan and mainland Europe.
The new Suzuki Swift 4x4 will be offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine and five doors, in either SZ3 or SZ4 trim grades; priced at £11,516 and £13,116, respectively – not a huge premium at all over the two-wheel drive car.
Even with its efficient engine, automatic gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive system, the Swift 4x4 is just 65kg heavier than the two-wheel drive car and only creeps up a little on emissions to 126g/km of CO2; just 10g/km of CO2 extra over the 2WD model.
This new Swift is ready to offer extra grip when conditions get slippery and uses a permanent 4-wheel drive system which transfers additional torque to the rear wheels when needed, through a viscous coupling. On the outside we see chunkier styling in the form of a 25mm increase in ride height, front and rear skid-plates and black plastic wheel arch extensions.
Suzuki is launching the Swift 4x4 in the UK this month, and it is available VAT-free until September 30th.
