TCT gearbox update for Alfa Romeo Giulietta

The number of drivers clamouring to get behind the wheel of an Alfa Romeo Giulietta could be set to rise following a recent announcement from the Italian manufacturer.

In order to boost the performance of the hugely-popular hatchback, Alfa has decided to fit the Giulietta with a new version of its TCT twin-clutch transmission.

The upgraded model will be made available with either a petrol or diesel engine, with the 1.4-litre TB MultiAir engine, which boasts 170bhp, just one of the available options.

Those looking to put the new model through its paces will find the upgraded Alfa is capable of reaching a top speed of 135mph and rushing from 0 to 62mph in 7.7 seconds.

While prices are set to start at around £21,000, drivers will benefit from lower taxes as a result of the car's emission figures of just 121g/km.

The news follows the recent revelation that Alfa is to cease production of the 159, with just 230 new models said to be available in the UK.
