Motorists in the market for a spacious hatchback could be tempted to get behind the wheel of the new Chevrolet Aveo following the comments of one reviewer.

Industry publication What Car? has claimed that the model, which is pitched against the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa, offers plenty of room and innovative storage ideas.

The magazine said the Aveo is "ideal" for tall occupants as the driver's seat adjusts for height and the wheel allows for both reach and rake.

What Car? commented: "The Chevrolet's 290-litre boot is average for the class. There's under-floor storage ... and even space in the spare wheel well, while the rear seats split 60-40 and fold.

"The centre console is attractive and well laid out, with chunky, rubberised ventilation controls. Soft-touch plastics don't get a look-in, but everything feels well assembled and there are cubbyholes and steering wheel controls for the stereo and cruise."

Last month it was announced that 2012 will see the Aveo given an SUV-style makeover.
