Vauxhall Astra GTC gets all-new diesel engine

The three-door Astra GTC coupe becomes the latest model in the Vauxhall range to receive the firm's more refined 1.6 CDTi 'Whisper Diesel' engine,

The new 1.6-litre diesel unit, first introduced in the Atrsa, Meriva, and Zafira Tourer, replaces the previous 1.7-litre unit, and produces 134bhp (6bhp more than the 1.7) and 320 Nm of torque (up 20Nm on the old 1.7).

Meanwhile CO2 emissions are a low 104g/km and the engine promises up to 72.4mpg combined fuel consumption thanks, in part, to a new six-speed manual gearbox. Start/stop technology is fitted as standard, regardless of trim level, as is an energy recuperation system.

Speaking of trims, the new engine can be selected in Sport, Limited Edition and Sri models.

Vauxhall's Stuart Harris said: "We are delighted to see the 1.6-litre 'Whisper Diesel' introduced into our flagship GTC model.

"The new 1.6-litre engine is a result of significant investment and provides an exceptional blend of performance, refinement and economy."
