Exterior
From the front, stylish LED headlights are a real focal point, with edgy patterned detailing. Moving inwards, the copper CUPRA tribal logo and lettering sit smartly in the centre above the gloss black grille that is framed with a complementary copper trim.
Moving around the side of the vehicle, smart and aerodynamically configured alloy wheels are bound to grab attention. Our model had Diamond Cut 20-inch Hurricane Alloys which definitely have the wow factor. Rear tinted windows and the floating C Pillar effect add further to the overall sporty aesthetic.
At the rear, coast to coast LED lighting illuminates the whole back of the vehicle, plus the LED sidelights feature smart ‘Born’ detailing.
Interior
Starting at the rear, the CUPRA Born comes with a spacious 385-litre capacity boot, fit for whatever daily life throws at it. This can be extended further thanks to the 60:40 folding back seats.
Rear passengers will certainly feel comfortable, with plenty of leg and headroom on offer, a handy armrest with cupholders, USB-C charge ports and comfy vegan leather seats.
In the front, you will be greeted with stylishly designed and electronically adjustable seats that come complete with massage functionality for a real sense of luxury.
The flat bottomed, ergonomically designed steering wheel is multi-functional, meaning you can control a number of vehicle operations without taking your hands off the wheel. Buttons on the left-hand side allow you to select and adjust your Adaptive Cruise Control, and on the right-hand side, you will be able to toggle radio and media settings and switch up the view on the main driver display screen. Additionally, the automatic gear paddle sits just behind the steering wheel, for ultimate ease of access.
The clear digital driver display in front of the steering wheel gives you access to essential driving information such as your speed, speed sign recognition, range and regenerative braking metrics – all at a glance.
In the centre of the dashboard, an intuitive touchscreen display gives occupants access to control the interior climate, radio, sat nav, telephone connections, vehicle statistics and driving profiles. The menu can be rearranged and personalised to suit your requirements too.
Copper inserts and detailing throughout the interior look the part and also help match exterior styling. The inside of the CUPRA Born is a truly practical yet luxurious place to be.
Drive and Performance
Thanks to its electric nature, once you press your foot down on the accelerator, the CUPRA Born is off. The instant torque makes the vehicle feel a little bit like a Scalextric!
It’s incredibly easy to handle and firm steering gives a real sporty effect when driving.
The official range of a standard CUPRA Born model is around 260 miles - however in real-world conditions, when using features such as the heated seats and steering wheel, air conditioning and infotainment system, you can expect to more accurately achieve around 200 – 210 miles. This is still an incredible range, and when you consider that the average UK car journey length is just 8.4 miles - the CUPRA Born is more than capable of meeting your everyday needs. It is also worth noting that regenerative braking technology will help to conserve and extend vehicle range, however, if you do require the reassurance of that bit more, the e-Boost option has a whopping capacity to travel up to 340 miles from a single full charge!
The entry-level CUPRA Born that is fitted with a 58kWh battery can be rapid charged at up to 100kW, which means that a top-up battery boost from 10 - 80% should only take around 30 minutes – ideal if you’re on the go.
The CUPRA Born is a great choice if you’re looking for a practical electric hatchback. With sporty styling, it looks the part; the inside is supremely comfortable and comes packed full of useful technology; and thanks to its electric motor you’ll feel the benefit of reduced running costs, be able to experience the thrill of instantaneous torque, and have the knowledge that you’re emitting zero tailpipe emissions when you travel.
