British Gas warms to Nissan e-NV200

UK energy firm British Gas has announced it will be trialling a fleet of 28 all-electric Nissan e-NV200 vans for a six-month national winter test.

The pilot comes in partnership with Hitachi Capital Commercial Vehicle Solutions and Gateshead College and will test to see if the technology will be viable to use for its 13,000 home service vans fleet.

Testing will be conducted all over the country from now until April 2014, and will strive to discover how the vans tackle the UK's winter conditions while British Gas carry out vital services to keep homes across the nation warm.

British Gas drivers have been fully briefed by Gateshead College as to how to drive the 100 per cent electric vehicle to its maximum efficiency.

The innovative Nissan is said to deliver zero emissions at the point of use and could signal the future of commercial vehicle design and delivery.

Nissan GB managing director Jim Wright said the manufacturer is "proud" to be providing vehicles and services for the energy company, in collaboration with its partners.

"Piloting such a large number of vans with British Gas in advance of the e-NV200 going on sale in 2014, underlines the closeness of our relationship and marks the final stages of the vehicle’s development," he said.
