CUPRA Reveals Newly Updated Formentor and Leon Models
The two popular models have been given several design updates and the latest technical upgrades.
- The new models were unveiled at the annual World Premiere in Palacio de Cibeles, Madrid.
- This comes after a successful first quarter for the Spanish brand, having delivered 56,600 cars alone.
- Both models have been updated to evoke the brand’s new design language. Other updates include a new petrol engine option for Sportstourer models, plus eHybrid technology.
Both the CUPRA Formentor and Leon have long been successful models. Last year, the Formentor was named Best Coupe SUV by What Car? while the Leon has previously been voted Family Car of the Year.
Building on their popularity, CUPRA has announced new updates across both models. Read on for what to expect.
Next-generation power
Continuing to raise the bar for performance, CUPRA has introduced two new powertrains for the models.
CUPRA Formentor and Leon Sportstourer models will be exclusively available with a new TSI petrol engine option. This delivers 333PS (245kW) and features torque splitter technology, plus premium Akebono brakes.
The second powertrain is a plug-in hybrid, which delivers 272PS (200kW) and offers over 100km of electric range. Now compatible with fast charging (up to 50kW DC), plug-in hybrid versions will be easy and convenient to recharge.
With petrol, diesel, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrains, the Formentor and Leon are now more flexible than ever.

Embracing a new design language, the CUPRA Formentor and Leon are now also even more distinctive.
Exterior updates include the CUPRA logo on the front bonnet and triangular Matrix LED lighting. The CUPRA logo is also illuminated at the rear leaving a more lasting impression.
Two matte colours have also been added, Century Bronze and Enceladus Grey. Allowing you to make a bolder style statement whichever model you choose.
Inside, both models feature a new interior blending sporty style with sustainable materials. The Bucket seats can be wrapped in either 73% recycled microfibre or eco-friendly leather.
The central console has been updated, while a new digital cockpit and 12.9” infotainment system improve connectivity. The latter includes a new retro-illuminated slider.
Continuing success for CUPRA
CUPRA has already had a successful start to 2024, which looks set to continue with the new Formentor and Leon models.
In the first quarter alone, the Spanish manufacturer delivered 56,600 models, showing an increase of 21.4% versus the same time last year. In March, they experienced a record month, with 23,800 deliveries.
Wayne Griffiths, CEO of CUPRA said:
“The CUPRA Formentor and Leon have both been a driving force in the brand’s success as it expands its footprint around the world. It’s an approach that has been incredibly successful with close to 600,000 cars delivered since the brand’s launch in 2018.”
“The new CUPRA Formentor and Leon are pure design obsession. Two models built to provoke strong emotions and that strengthen the extraordinary bond with our Tribe. Two models that represent what that small group of believers envisaged CUPRA could be just a few years ago.”
