Electric Ford Fiesta wins Future Care Challenge award

A Ford model has won the most economic light commercial vehicle award at the first RAC Future Car Challenge.

The Ford Fiesta Van ECOnetic was named the most economical model by a panel of judges after achieving a fuel consumption of 78.6mpg.

The event took the form of a journey between Brighton and London and was judged by Steve Cropley of Autocar Magazine and John Wood of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.

Graham Hoare, executive powertrain director at Ford of Europe, said the challenge was an opportunity for the company to showcase its "production-ready electric powertrains and advanced internal combustion engine technology".

He also stated that the Transit Connect Electric "comfortably completed the challenge" and added that the vehicle would see its UK production launch next year.

In other news, the Ford Transit was recently named the most reliable van in the Fleet News FN50 survey for the fourth year running. ADNFCR-3205-ID-800232638-ADNFCR
