Fiat 500 wins design award

The Fiat 500 has been awarded the Compasso d'Oro ADI for its design, which features a comfortable interior and the use of advanced technology.

What's more, this is not the first time the carmaker has been given the prize - which translates as the ADI Golden Compass - as the Panda took home the same trophy in 2004.

The Fiat 500, which was re-launched three years ago, was chosen by a panel of industry experts to be rewarded for what the manufacturer described as "an innovative and original design with the most advanced technology in the field of engines, safety and on-board comfort".

Since July 2007, when it hit the market, the vehicle has collected 40 international prizes and the carmaker says its receipt of the Golden Compass marks it out as "the best of Made in Italy".

The Fiat 500 was praised by Jeremy Clarkson in the Times in 2008, when he described the vehicle as having a "fantastic" appearance and promised buyers would love the driving experience.
