First look at the new Mazda2

Mazda has revealed the first pictures of its all-new Mazda2 and announced that production has begun at its Hofu plant.

Mazda is bringing another exciting interpretation of the supermini to drivers around the world with the new 2. More than 2.4 million Mazda2s have already been sold globally since the car was launched in 1996.

The latest incarnation has a new sleek look while retaining the classic edgy Mazda styling. This has been combined with fantastic performance, fuel economy, safety and Mazda's patented driving fun to give the new Mazda2 the potential to reproduce the immense popularity of its siblings the Mazda CX-5, Mazda6 and Mazda3.

Evolving and enhancing the existing technology and performance in these sister vehicles, the latest Mazda is expected to shake things up and leave its rivals quaking in their boots.
The interior, similar to the current Mazda3, is spacious, refined and includes the innovative MZD Connect in-car connectivity system. The system makes controlling your navigation or music simple via a touch screen, voice recognition or the Multimedia Commander control on the console.

This will become the fourth member of Mazda's current model generation and features the full range of ultra-efficient SKYACTIV Technology engines. The all-new Mazda2 will premiere in Europe with a brand-new small displacement clean diesel engine, the SKYACTIV-D 1.5, as well as different power versions of the petrol SKYACTIV-G 1.5.

The Mazda2 will involve a class-beating range of safety technology, including pre-crash technology that warns the driver of objects in front, approaching fast behind and lane departure technology.
