Ford cements leading position in UK car market

Ford has continued its strong performance in the UK car industry, as the American manufacturer secured its position as the market leader with an impressive first quarter.

Its March sales totalled 66,013, representing 14.9 per cent of the market share, with the Ford Fiesta the best performing vehicle.

Meanwhile, for the whole quarter, total sales stood at 102,686, a 15 per cent share of the market. Again, the Fiesta led the range, followed by the Focus.

"The important March sales month, when the number plate change boosts registrations, has provided more positive news for the UK market and seen Ford’s car and CV ranges continue their terrific 2013 sales record," said Mark Ovenden, Ford of Britain managing director.

He added that the 2013 range has been strengthened through the launch of a new Ford Fiesta, Ford Transit Custom, Ford Kuga and Ford Fiesta ST.

Total sales for March, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), stood at 394,806, up 5.9 per cent on figures from last year.ADNFCR-3205-ID-801567418-ADNFCR
