Ford EcoBoost sets 16 new speed records

Rally ace Jari-Matti Latvala helped the new Ford EcoBoost engine set 16 new speed records earlier this week.

The Ford WRC star put a one-litre Focus EcoBoost 125PS model through its paces at the CERAM test circuit in France and proved that despite its engine size, the car is capable of a 0-62mph acceleration time of just 11.3 seconds.

Ford also boasts a top speed of the model of 120mph, with impressive fuel consumption figures of 56.5 mpg and CO2 emissions of 114g/km.

The model proved that good things can be delivered in small packages by setting 16 new speed records over distances ranging from 0.6 miles to 2,550.5 miles.

Latvala, who is more used to driving the 304PS Ford Fiesta RS World Rally Car, said: "This little engine punches way above its weight when it comes to performance.

"The records prove the Focus 1.0-litre EcoBoost can be lots of fun - as well as a very frugal car."
