Ford Fiesta boasts fuel economy of 85mpg

Eco-conscious motorists in the market for a new car could be tempted by the Ford Fiesta after the Blue Oval boasted of its economic credentials.

With the Budget bringing a spike in fuel duty, Ford has highlighted the impressive economy of the new Fiesta, which is capable of returning 85mpg.

Using the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic model as an example, the manufacturer pointed out the car emits just 87g of CO2 per kilometre.

Crucially, this means the car is free from tax and is excluded from London Congestion Zone charges.

The firm also said that the economic diesel engine means that drivers will save money at the pumps.

Mark Ovenden, managing director of Ford Britain, said: "We cannot influence how the cost of motoring changes as a result of today's Budget, but we will continue to design, develop and market innovative vehicles that minimise the cost of motoring for today’s families.

"Our cars are fun to drive, stylish and packed with technology, while returning up to 20mpg more than just a few years ago."

It comes after the coalition used the Budget to confirm that fuel duty will increase by 3p per litre in August this year.
