Hyundai gives first glimpse of i-oniq concept car

Hyundai has given the world a sneak peak at its new concept car, the i-oniq.

It claims that the model will show the industry and motorists its plans for the future in design and technology.

The car, which will be officially unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show on March 6th, is an electric sports hatchback with a petrol engine for extended range.

Design elements include premium and sporty qualities, such as a 'penthouse roof' and LED headlights.

Technology will also play a large part in the carmaker's future and the i-oniq displays a high-tech driver interface and controls.

"It has a bold design, inside and out, that provokes contemplation on the future of automotive possibilities, and a powertrain that highlights one of the ways in which we could power future products - wrapped in a package that exudes premium qualities," explained Allan Rushforth, senior vice-president and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe.

The announcement comes as the Hyundai i30 has been named UK Car of the Year and Best Family Car by review website CarBuyer.
