Hyundai's 'My Baby' future design challenge reveals incredible vehicles

Hyundai might be a new car brand that's currently on the march and doing good things in the present day of car manufacture, but they're not forgetting the future either. Their 'My Baby' future design challenge is in full swing and there is plenty of sci-fi inspiration to see. The vehicles of the future are surely fantastic.

The biennial My Baby project first started in 2008 as an internal competition among Hyundai’s designers to keep them on their toes in terms of out-of-the-box creativity. The idea is that the designers use ‘new thinking’ to imagine a future without technological or manufacturing limits. And they came up with some wild styles this year!

For 2013, the theme for My Baby was ‘Discovery 2050’, a Star Trek-lovers dream treatment set in 2050 where a space probe is launched in search of an alternative home for humanity. The probe is sent to unknown planets to explore the environment, and the organisms that may inhabit it. The Hyundai designers then had to come up with a design that would make the probe more successful in its interplanetary mission.

The cream of the crazy design crop were made into scale models and were unveiled at the Seoul Motor Show earlier this year.
