Mazda MX-5 named Best Roadster at 2011 Auto Express awards

The Mazda MX-5 has been named the Best Roadster in an awards ceremony that hailed the car's lively performance and ageless looks.

Judges for the Auto Express New Car Awards chose the MX-5 as winner in the category for the sixth consecutive year, beating a shortlist that included the Audi TT and Mercedes SLK.

Furthermore, more than two decades after the original was first launched a new limited-edition Mazda MX-5 Sport Black model is now available for £22,995 OTR.

Explaining the magazine's decision to name the MX-5 as the Best Roadster, Auto Express' acting editor, Graham Hope, said it does not take long to see why the car is popular.

"A short blast behind the wheel is all you'll need to understand why the latest MX-5 is such as smash hit. For smiles-per-mile at an affordable price, nothing else comes close," he said.

"Lively performance and beautifully balanced, confidence-inspiring handling combine with ageless looks and a simple, well built cabin - all the things which buyers demand in a roadster."

The Japanese manufacturer launched both the limited edition MX-5 and Mazda2 at the end of last month.
