New Ford Mustang proves popular in the UK

The latest reincarnation of the iconic Ford Mustang is high in demand in the UK, with over 2,000 orders for the new right-hand drive cars having been placed since January.

First introduced in the US more than 50 years ago, the Ford Mustang is now being brought to Britain, in a right-handed guise for the first time. With a select few show models already travelling around the UK, the first customer deliveries are expected from November.

Extra cars will be shipped in to the UK, after demand for the Mustang proved far greater than expected.

Of the Mustangs that have been ordered so far, 80 per cent are of fastback body style and 70 per cent will boast the 416PS 5.0-litre V8 engine over the more fuel-efficient 317PS 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine. Mustang's six-speed manual transmission is only slightly more popular than the six-speed automatic, which comes with sporty SelectShift paddle control.

Race Red is the most-popular exterior colour for the right-hand drive Mustangs, with 23 per cent of orders. Magnetic Silver and Shadow Black are in joint second place with 16.1 per cent each and Deep Impact Blue 10.7 and Triple Yellow 8.6 complete the top five, with 10.7 and 8.6 per cent respectively. Ebony Black is the top pick for interior colour, selected by more than 75 per cent of customers.

Over half of the future Mustang owners have opted for the Custom pack, which includes SatNav, a Shaker Pro 12-speaker audio system, heated and cooled front seats, a rear view camera, Luster Nickel silver alloy wheels and extra chrome detailing on fastback models.
