The long awaited Ford Mustang is here and we've been for a drive in it

This is the muscle car we've all been waiting for in Europe. In its 50-year history the Mustang has certainly gained a cult following that any car would be envious of and for the very first time it's available in right-hand-drive.

Equipped with the 415bhp V8 engine, it returns 20.9mpg and has slightly higher emissions of 299g/km. It's quick and will hit 60mph in a shade under five seconds while being able to travel to its limited top speed of 155mph.

It's not all about a V8, alternative to this there's a 312bhp 2.3-litre four cylinder Ecoboost option too. If you opt for this low CO2 Mustang, you can expect reduced emissions 179g/km and it'll return 35.3mpg.

It's big and feels it, with the long nose that you'd expect on a muscle car such as this. However, the best thing is that with the V8 it sounds like a Mustang should and has the pace to match.

The Mustang's basic specification includes 19-inch alloys, xenon headlights, nine-speaker sound system and Ford's clever voice-control SYNC2 multimedia system. This contains the controls for the climate, navigation, telephone and multimedia. Thanks to some smart graphics the multi media system takes no time at all to master.

According to Ford, so far 80 per cent of its customers ticked all the other options on the specification sheet - including comfy Recaro seats and upgraded Shaker audio system.
