Next Green Car Awards 2013: MPV Award: Citroen C4 Picasso 1.6 e-HDi

The environmentally-focused, Next Green Car website (nextgreencar.com) announced the winners of its 2013 awards yesterday; an awards system founded on economy and CO2 ratings, the best use of the latest technology and the vehicle's overall green credentials, or Green Car Rating (GCR).

Dr. Ben Lane, Managing Editor of Next Green Car, said; “The 2013 winners reflect two key elements underlying current green car development; drive-train electrification and continuing improvements in fuel efficiency.

"While all the winners are highly distinctive in the innovations they employ, they all excel at using new technologies to enhance the driver experience."

The all-new Citroen C4 Picasso took the top prize in the MPV category, with the modern-looking new 5-seater – a 7-seater variant will follow later this year – particularly noted for its sub-100g/km CO2 diesel model. It wasn't long ago at all that it was the reserve of very small city cars to be claiming double-digit CO2 figures. Not any more.

The new C4 Picasso is also offered with other petrol and diesel engines, that, while they don't dip under the 100g/km mark, are still very close to it.

Next Green Car verdict: "The new Citroen C4 Picasso not only offers families an attractive, responsive, economical compact MPV but also should be congratulated for being the first conventionally-powered MPV to break through the 100 gCO2/km barrier with the resultant efficiencies.”
