Nissan Dealerships Prepare to Introduce Green Number Plates for EVs
Nissan dealers are preparing for the arrival of greener number plates this Autumn, to make it easier to recognise EVs on the road.
As the new 70 reg models roll into dealerships, Nissan has decided to trial the new green plates on electric vehicles, to show customers how they would look when they drive onto our roads later in the year.
The new plates feature a subtle green block to the left-hand side, making it easier to distinguish EVs from traditional combustion engine vehicles.
Grant Shapps, Secretary of State for transport, said: “The green plates increase awareness of cleaner vehicles on our roads and show people that a greener transport future is within our grasp”.
It is also expected to help local authorities to implement new policies, such as cheaper parking for EV drivers, to encourage people to make the switch.
A spokesman for Nissan said: ‘Anything that encourages electric vehicle use is to be encouraged and we think the green plates will prove incredibly useful in terms of raising awareness of the benefits of emission-free motoring.’
The green plate initiative was originally proposed back in June, and although an exact date for the introduction of them hasn’t been clarified just yet, the Department of Transport have confirmed they will be arriving this Autumn.
