Plato looking forward to next season in turbo-powered Chevrolet Cruze

Reigning BTCC champion Jason Plato has all but thrown the towel in on his bid to retain his crown.

The Chevrolet Cruze driver has lamented the gap in performance between his car and those powered by turbo engines such as the Honda Civic which has dominated the season.

Mathematically, Plato can still retain the title, but writing for the Sun, the driver claims his chances are slim.

"We might be in with a chance at the next round at Brands Hatch. But I'm sure at the series finale at Silverstone, a power circuit, I will be crushed, mushed, smashed and pulped by the turbos," he said.

However, Plato issued a warning to his rivals, saying that should his RML team obtain the investment it requires to build a turbo-powered Cruze he will romp to victory.

"If the RML team I drive for can get all the investment we need, which I have to say is substantial, we will be producing a turbo-powered 'next generation' Chevrolet Cruze. And, put simply, we will blow everyone away," he added.
